Kathryn and Adam’s Glen Magna Farms wedding on July 31, 2026 brought together so many of the things that make a summer wedding on Massachusetts’ North Shore special: a historic estate, beautiful gardens, an elegant reception and a day that still felt relaxed and personal.
I photographed the wedding alongside my talented cousin, Courtney Cania. Working together gave us the freedom to document Kathryn and Adam’s day from different perspectives, particularly during the preparations, ceremony and reception when so many moments are happening at once.
The day began with Kathryn and Adam getting ready separately at Glen Magna Farms. We photographed the details and individual portraits before bringing them together for their first look in the gardens, followed by a short couple’s portrait session around the estate. Guests then began arriving for cocktails and canapés before the ceremony, followed by another cocktail hour, family and wedding-party portraits, dinner, first dances, speeches and a packed dance floor.
We also made time later in the evening for a nighttime portrait session on the estate’s staircase. The night finished on a much more playful note with Kathryn, her bridesmaids and a bottle of champagne making use of one of Glen Magna’s bathtubs for a set of photographs that were completely different from the more formal images earlier in the day.
Getting Ready for Kathryn & Adam’s Glen Magna Farms Wedding
One advantage of a wedding at Glen Magna Farms is being able to begin the photography within the character of the estate itself. Kathryn and Adam got ready in separate rooms, which allowed us to photograph both sides of the morning while keeping them apart before their first look.
Along with the candid preparation photographs, we created individual portraits of Kathryn and Adam before the day became busier. I like having this time early in the schedule because it gives us an opportunity to work with the interiors and window light without pulling the couple away from guests later.
Photographing alongside Courtney also meant we could cover more of what was happening simultaneously. Wedding mornings are full of small interactions between family and friends, and having two photographers allowed us to document those moments without making the preparations feel staged.
Adam & His Groomsmen Getting Ready
After photographing Kathryn’s preparations, I joined Adam and his groomsmen as they finished getting ready at Glen Magna Farms. The atmosphere on the groom’s side was relaxed, with plenty of jokes and laughter before we moved into portraits with the group. Keeping the preparations at the venue helped the morning flow naturally and gave us time to photograph both sides without anyone feeling rushed. Good wedding photography often has as much to do with planning the timeline as it does with what happens once the camera comes out. Leaving enough time for these parts of the day allows genuine moments to happen without constantly watching the clock.
A First Look in the Gardens at Glen Magna Farms
After Kathryn and Adam finished getting ready, we brought them into the gardens at Glen Magna Farms for their first look. With so much of the wedding still ahead of them, it gave them a few quiet minutes together before the ceremony and the rest of the celebration began.
The gardens worked beautifully for this part of the day. We chose a spot that gave Kathryn a natural approach toward Adam while keeping the moment private and allowing the historic estate and greenery to become part of the photographs without overwhelming them.
Once they had seen each other, we stayed in the gardens for a short portrait session. I never want a first look to turn into a long photo shoot—the moment itself is more important than creating a huge collection of posed photographs. We kept things relaxed, gave Kathryn and Adam time to enjoy being together, and used the surrounding gardens for a mixture of natural portraits and candid moments.
Having the first look before the ceremony also meant we already had a strong collection of photographs of the two of them early in the day. Later, we could return to portraits when the light and timeline allowed without keeping them away from their guests for too long.
An Outdoor Ceremony
Kathryn and Adam exchanged their vows outdoors at Glen Magna Farms, surrounded by the estate’s gardens and historic North Shore setting. It was a beautiful setting for a summer wedding in Massachusetts, with the property’s mature landscaping and architecture giving the ceremony a timeless sense of place. With their closest family and friends watching, Kathryn and Adam ceremony. From a photography perspective, the open ceremony setting also gave me room to work discreetly from several angles. I could document Kathryn and Adam while also watching for the reactions of their parents, family and guests—the smaller moments happening around a ceremony that are often just as meaningful as the ceremony itself.
Wedding Portraits Around Glen Magna Farms
One of the strongest features of Glen Magna Farms from a photography perspective is the amount of variety available without leaving the estate.
The historic mansion, gardens, mature trees, pathways and architectural details give each part of the property a different feeling. That allowed us to create elegant portraits of Kathryn and Adam while still keeping their time away from the celebration reasonable.
My approach to wedding photography in Massachusetts is to balance beautiful, intentional portraits with documentary photographs that show how the day actually felt. I will give direction when it improves a portrait, but I do not want couples spending their entire wedding performing for the camera.
Because we had already photographed Kathryn and Adam during their first look, the post-ceremony session could stay efficient. We concentrated on the photographs that mattered and then got them back to their guests.
Dinner, First Dances & Wedding Speeches
After cocktail hour and portraits, everyone moved into the dinner reception and the evening formalities began.
Kathryn and Adam shared their first dance, followed by the father-and-daughter dance and Adam’s dance with his mother. These traditions happen at almost every wedding, but the photographs are never really the same because the relationships are different. I am watching the people dancing, but I am also looking beyond them for the reactions happening around the room.
A handful of speeches followed, giving us a mix of emotion, laughter and candid reactions from Kathryn, Adam and their guests.
Once dinner and the formalities were finished, the atmosphere shifted quickly and the dance floor opened.
When the Dance Floor Opened
From that point, the formal side of the wedding gave way to a much looser celebration.
This is one of the most documentary parts of the day for me. There is very little reason to direct anything. I am looking for expressions, groups of friends coming together, unexpected moments and the kind of photographs that only happen when people stop thinking about the camera.
With The Dance Floor DJs handling the entertainment, Kathryn and Adam’s guests kept the energy high and gave us a completely different set of images from the elegant portraits and ceremony photographs earlier in the day.
Why Glen Magna Farms Is a Standout North Shore Wedding Venue
For couples researching North Shore wedding venues, Glen Magna Farms offers something very different from a hotel ballroom or modern event space.
The estate’s history reaches back to the early 19th century, and the property is now operated by the Danvers Historical Society. The historic mansion and gardens give weddings here an atmosphere that feels established and genuinely New England rather than designed to imitate it.
From my perspective as a photographer, the biggest advantage is variety. We could move from indoor preparations to the gardens, ceremony, reception spaces, staircase and nighttime portraits while keeping the entire story visually connected to the same property.
That combination of history, architecture and landscaped grounds is a major reason Glen Magna Farms has become such a desirable luxury wedding venue on the North Shore of Massachusetts. It photographs beautifully, but more importantly, it gives a wedding a distinctive sense of place.
Nighttime Wedding Portraits at Glen Magna Farms
Rather than ending the portrait session when daylight disappeared, we took Kathryn and Adam back out later in the evening for another short set of photographs.
The staircase at Glen Magna Farms gave us a strong architectural setting for nighttime portraits and a completely different mood from the garden photographs earlier in the day. I like adding a short evening session when the schedule allows because it gives couples something visually unexpected without taking them away from the party for very long.
These photographs also show why a historic estate can be such a rewarding venue to work at. The architecture becomes part of the composition rather than simply a background.
Champagne, Bridesmaids & a Bathtub
Some of the most memorable photographs from Kathryn and Adam’s wedding happened right at the end of the night.Kathryn climbed into one of the venue’s bathtubs for a few playful bridal portraits before her bridesmaids joined her with champagne. After a day of elegant gardens, formal portraits and emotional traditions, it was the perfect contrast—fun, spontaneous and completely their own.Those are often the photographs that round out a wedding gallery for me. A wedding should not look like one long styled shoot. It should have elegance, emotion, energy and a little unpredictability.
A Relaxed Wedding Timeline at Glen Magna Farms
One of the things that made Kathryn and Adam’s wedding especially enjoyable to photograph was the way each part of the celebration could unfold without feeling rushed.
With the preparations, first look, ceremony, portraits and reception all taking place at Glen Magna Farms, we could create a complete story while keeping Kathryn and Adam present with their guests. That balance—thoughtful portraits without turning the wedding into a production—is central to how I work.
Photographing a Glen Magna Farms Wedding
Having now photographed a full wedding day at Glen Magna Farms, I can see why the venue is so appealing to couples planning an upscale celebration on the North Shore.
From a photography standpoint, the property gives us options throughout the entire day rather than one or two obvious portrait locations. The rooms work for preparations, the gardens are ideal for a first look and daytime portraits, the historic architecture adds character to the reception story, and the staircase gave us a strong location once it was dark.
Working alongside Courtney Cania was also a meaningful part of this wedding for me. She is my cousin as well as a talented photographer, and collaborating allowed us to tell Kathryn and Adam’s story with two complementary perspectives while keeping the photography relaxed.
After photographing more than 700 weddings internationally, I still approach each wedding with the same priority: create the polished portraits couples expect, but never lose sight of the unscripted moments happening around them.
