Explore Anna & Ryan's Cape Cod wedding at Willowbend Country Club.

“Surrounded by the quiet beauty of Willowbend, Anna and Ryan began their next chapter with family, laughter, and a little Cape Cod summer magic.”
Anna and Ryan’s Willowbend Country Club wedding on July 11, 2026, was a particularly special one for me. Not only was it a beautiful summer wedding at one of Cape Cod’s best-known country club venues, it was also the first wedding I photographed since expanding my work to Cape Cod.
There was a personal connection to this wedding as well. Anna is the daughter of my mother’s boss, a local Cape Cod attorney, so being trusted by their family to document such an important day meant a lot to me.
The wedding itself gave us one of those classic sunny Cape Cod summer days. We started just a few miles from Willowbend at Anna’s mother’s home before heading to the resort for Ryan’s preparations, an outdoor ceremony overlooking the golf course, portraits beside Willowbend’s iconic red barn, and a reception filled with emotional speeches, laughter and a very busy dance floor.
After years of photographing destination weddings, it felt great to be documenting a love story somewhere that has been part of my own life for so long.
I started the day at Anna’s mother’s home, located only a few miles from Willowbend Country Club.
Before photographing the preparations, I spent some time with the details Anna and Ryan had carefully chosen for their wedding—the rings, invitation cards, shoes, flowers, jewelry and other small pieces that help tell the complete story of a wedding day.
I always like starting this way. Years later, these photographs often become a reminder of little things couples might otherwise forget.
Once the details were finished, I moved into candid photographs and bridal portraits of Anna as everyone prepared for the day ahead.
One of my favorite moments from the morning was Anna’s first look with her father. Rather than trying to overly direct moments like this, I prefer to give people some space and allow the reaction to happen naturally. It was emotional, genuine and exactly the type of moment I love documenting.
After finishing with Anna, I made the short drive to Willowbend to meet Ryan and his groomsmen at his condo. The atmosphere on the groom’s side was relaxed, with plenty of jokes and laughs as everyone finished getting ready. We photographed Ryan’s final preparations before moving into portraits with the groomsmen. Having both the bride and groom relatively close to the venue made the morning schedule run smoothly and gave us enough time to photograph both sides without anyone feeling rushed. Good wedding photography often has as much to do with planning the timeline as it does with what happens once the camera comes out. Leaving enough time for these parts of the day allows genuine moments to happen without constantly watching the clock.
Anna and Ryan exchanged their vows outdoors at Willowbend with the golf course stretching out behind them. It was a beautiful setting for a summer wedding on Cape Cod and very different from the beachfront scenery that people often associate with the area. That variety is one of the things I like about Willowbend. You still have the unmistakable New England atmosphere of Cape Cod, but instead of sand and ocean, the backdrop consists of manicured greens, mature landscaping, cranberry bogs and the venue’s distinctive red barn. With their closest family and friends watching, Anna and Ryan exchanged their vows on a gorgeous July afternoon. From a photography perspective, the open ceremony setting also gave me room to work discreetly from several angles. I could document Anna and Ryan while also watching for the reactions of their parents, family and guests—the smaller moments happening around a ceremony that are often just as meaningful as the ceremony itself.
Following the ceremony, we headed onto the golf course for portraits.
Of course, we had to make use of one of Willowbend’s most recognizable features: the legendary red barn.
Against the greens of the golf course, the barn provides a classic New England backdrop and immediately gives the photographs a sense of place. For couples considering a Willowbend Country Club wedding, it is certainly one location I would recommend leaving some time for in the photography schedule.
My approach to wedding portraits is to find a balance between creating beautiful photographs and allowing the couple to actually enjoy their wedding.
We captured the more traditional portraits that every couple should have, but I also gave Anna and Ryan space to interact naturally. Some of my favorite images are often created in between poses—the laughter, glances and little interactions that happen when a couple temporarily forgets there is a photographer standing nearby.
Having the golf course, barn and surrounding landscape available gave us plenty of variety without taking Anna and Ryan away from their guests for an unnecessarily long portrait session.
Following the portrait session, everyone gathered for the reception and the evening celebrations began.
Anna and Ryan opened the reception with their first dance before moving into the traditional parent dances—the father-daughter dance followed by Ryan’s dance with his mother.
These are always meaningful moments to photograph, particularly because I’m not only watching the couple. I’m also looking around the room for parents, grandparents, bridal party members and friends reacting to what is happening.
The evening continued with speeches from family and friends, bringing a great mix of genuine emotion and plenty of laughter.
Everything flowed naturally into dinner before the formalities gave way to the party.
Once Groove Authority started playing, the energy changed quickly.
The dance floor filled and gave me an entirely different side of the wedding to photograph.
This part of the night is almost completely documentary for me. There’s very little reason to direct anything—the photographs come from anticipating what’s about to happen, watching interactions between guests and being in the right place when those spontaneous moments unfold.
After the elegance and emotion of the ceremony and speeches, having a packed dance floor was the perfect way for Anna and Ryan to finish the celebration.

Couples researching Cape Cod wedding venues often immediately think about getting married beside the ocean. While Cape Cod certainly has incredible beachfront venues, Willowbend shows a completely different side of getting married here.
Located in Mashpee, Willowbend combines the polished atmosphere of a private country club with classic New England scenery.
From a photographer’s perspective, what I particularly appreciate is the variety available within one property. The golf course, red barn, cranberry bogs, landscaped grounds and elegant reception spaces allow us to create a diverse wedding gallery without spending valuable time traveling between several locations.
That becomes especially important on the wedding day. The less time a couple spends traveling for photographs, the more time they have to enjoy the celebration they spent months planning.
For couples looking for a country club wedding on Cape Cod, particularly those who want something other than a traditional beach setting, Willowbend offers a beautiful alternative.
If you’re considering a wedding at Willowbend Country Club, my biggest photography recommendation would be to build some flexibility into your timeline and leave dedicated time for portraits around the property.
The red barn and golf course are absolutely worth using, but those photographs become much easier to create when we aren’t trying to squeeze everything into ten rushed minutes between the ceremony and reception.
Light is another important consideration, particularly for summer weddings. Rather than choosing portrait times arbitrarily, I prefer to look at the ceremony time, sunset, locations and reception schedule together and build the photography timeline around the best available light.
Small adjustments can make an enormous difference while still allowing you to spend the majority of your wedding with your family and guests.
For couples planning a luxury wedding on Cape Cod, Willowbend provides plenty of opportunities to create a varied collection of photographs while keeping the entire celebration conveniently centered around one venue.
One thing that stood out about Anna and Ryan’s wedding was how smoothly the day flowed.
This is something couples don’t always think about when initially planning their wedding, but the schedule can have a huge influence on both their experience and their photographs.
We had enough time for details and preparations, Anna’s first look with her father, groom and groomsmen portraits, the ceremony and portraits around Willowbend without making photography feel like a race from one part of the day to another.
That’s exactly how I like to work.
I want to create a complete collection of photographs, but I never want a couple to feel as though their wedding became a photography production. The best moments usually happen when people are relaxed, enjoying themselves and not worrying about what comes next on a timeline.
On a personal level, Anna and Ryan’s wedding will always stand out in my memory because it marked my first wedding photographed on Cape Cod.
I’ve spent years documenting weddings and destination celebrations, and the fundamentals of what I love about wedding photography remain the same wherever I am working.
It’s about people.
The location, flowers, dress and details help create the setting, but the photographs that ultimately mean the most are usually the ones showing relationships—the look between a bride and her father, friends laughing together while getting ready, a groom seeing his bride, parents watching the first dance, or everyone finally letting loose on the dance floor.
Bringing that same storytelling approach to my Cape Cod wedding photography is something I’m incredibly excited about.
And I couldn’t have asked for a better wedding than Anna and Ryan’s to begin that chapter.
